Lichfield Mercury Competition Winners Collect Prizes

Two winners of the Lichfield Mercury Cutlery Competition visited the Factory Shop and met CEO Simon Price to collect their prizes.

Christine Brothoston and Sarah Ayto both won a 46 piece Ritz pattern set worth £650.  They were given a brief history of the company, shown various famous patterns and their stories including the cutlery found on the Titanic.  They also chatted with Simon about how cutlery is made.

Love Is In The Air Thanks To We Love Lichfield

The value of district charity We Love Lichfield to our young people was displayed at its summer giveaway at The George Hotel last Friday (June 27) with Arthur Price CEO hosting the event as patron of the Fund

Paralympic hopeful Chelsey Dixon was presented with £1,000 to help her buy a training boat. The 22-year-old is one of Britain’s best para-canoeists and has been selected for the Team GB squad and aims to represent her country in next year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Chelsey told fellow recipients, guests and patrons of We Love Lichfield of her terminal cancer diagnosis at the age of 14, how a massive tumour had to be removed from her right thigh, further tumours had to be removed from her brain and lungs and how she was told her dreams of  a sporting career were over.

 

But she went on to explain how the chemotherapy she received was successful and she was able to become active again, eventually trying different sports before settling on canoeing. Chelsey, who had previously played football for West Bromwich Albion, found a sport that she loved and began competing. She only took up canoeing two and-a-half years ago yet, following her international debut last August at the ICF Sprint Canoe World Championships in Portugal, she is now the ninth fastest women in the world in her event. Chelsey thanked the We Love Lichfield Fund for the donation which will be vitally important to her training.

 

Other impressive young people attended the event including The Friary High School’s head boy Niall Preston and head girl Hattie Rumsey. They presented £1,000 to We Love Lichfield, money which the school raised through a variety of events including non-uniform days.

 

We Love Lichfield patron Simon Price paid tribute to Chelsey and thanked Niall and Hattie for the Friary School’s donation. Simon also thanked all of the volunteers throughout the Lichfield district who enable our community to function.

 

Last Friday’s presentation saw thousands of pounds given to good causes. They are Beacon Park Tennis, Buddy Bag Foundation, Burntwood Pathway Project, Burntwood Town Council, Gartmore Riding For The Disabled Association Group, Guitar Group 1 – Lichfield U3A (AKA – Don’t Fret), Kendall & Wall Charitable Trust, Lichfield Arts, Lichfield Cruising Club2000 Ltd, Lichfield Greenhill Bower C.I.C, Lichfield Society of Artists,  Open Door of Hope, The Boys’ Brigade 1st Chasetown, The Lichfield and District Live at Home Scheme, The Lichfield and District Live at Home Scheme and Wildfire Folk.

Simon Price also wished to thank The George Hotel for hosting the presentation and for offering everyone ice cream refreshment. Thanks also to Andy Lightbown at David Lloyd Lichfield for the club’s contribution to the goodie bags.

Strictly Come Dancing Star Coming To Lichfield

Lichfield is set to be bowled over by a charity cricket evening starring Strictly Star Graeme Swann

 

We Love Lichfield, Lichfield Cricket Club and The Lord Taveners are hosting a charity evening of sporting chat and entertainment with all the money raised going to good causes across the District

 

Following on from the huge success of last year’s inaugural event, Lichfield Cricket Club, in association with We Love Lichfield and The Lords Taverners, are hosting a Gala Dinner on Friday 28th June. Ex-England cricketer, Ashes hero and Strictly Come Dancing star Graeme Swann is the main speaker, with Radio 5 Live presenter Pat Murphy once again MC for the evening.

 

The dinner, which includes a four-course meal, will take place in a marquee at Lichfield Cricket Club on Eastern Avenue, Lichfield with Gold Package tables of 10 available for £1,000 and standard tables available for £650. There will also be tables available for individual ticket purchases, with single tickets priced at £65.

 

In addition to the meal and Q&A with Graeme Swann & Pat Murphy, there will also be an auction and raffle, with other games taking place throughout the evening in what promises to be another memorable night supporting three fantastic causes, with all money raised being reinvested in the District of Lichfield.

Support For National Memorial Arboretum

The National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas is magnificent.  If you haven’t been please, please visit.  Solemn yet joyous, emotional yet inspiring it is a world-class memorial to our brave soldiers and civilians over the years.  Arthur Price is delighted to announce that we are supplying the Arboretum’s restaurant with new cutlery and, in recognition of the NMA’s charity status, we have  been able to significantly gift many pieces from our cutlery range.

Feeling The Love In Lichfield At Christmas

Arthur Price CEO and patron of We Love Lichfield hosted a special event donating thousands of pounds in grants at its special Christmas presentation. The charity, which supports voluntary groups making a difference in our communities, invited recipients, civic leaders and guests to the event in Lichfield’s George Hotel on Friday 14 December.

 

Just over £13,000 was given away to the following groups; Live Music Now, King George V Scouts and Guides Beaudesert, Shenstone Community Library Local History Group, Kendall and Wall Charitable Trust, Youth Sailing at Chasewater, Lichfield Swimming Club, Whittington Wednesday Club, Clifton Campville Village Hall, 1st Burntwood Scouts, Friends2Friends, Cogs Prepares For Life, The Guild of St Mary’s, Lichfield Greenhill Bower, Girlguiding Lichfield Division, Gartmore Riding for the Disabled, Shenstone Cares Elderly Support Group, Erasmus Darwin House and Spark Burntwood.

 

The donation to Spark, which will be used to fund an after-school club, was extra special as it became the 200th organisation to receive We Love Lichfield funding.  To mark the occasion there was a special guest to make the presentation – celebrity Debbie McGee, who is starring in Sleeping Beauty at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre

 

“I am honoured and humbled to be here with you all,” said Debbie. “It is so important that we support people doing special things that we often don’t get to hear about.”

 

Two groups which have received We Love Lichfield grants explained how the money has helped them. Doug Morrison, of Stonnall Youth and Community Centre Association, said its grant was being used to refurbish the floor of the centre and Anna Dennison and Kevin Pudney, of Friends2Friends, a social group for people with learning difficulties, spoke of how the money was used to take service users on a trip to the seaside.

 

Patron Simon Price paid tribute to the organisations and individuals that have supported We Love Lichfield this year. He thanked The George Hotel for its generous hospitality and We Love Lichfield patron Julian Fisher for organising the presentation, fellow patron John Heeler for riding from Lichfield London to raise money for the cause and patron Carrie Jahn for jumping out of a plane in aid of the charity.

 

City travel agent RB Collection gave a £500 donation to We Love Lichfield and a cheque for £4,000 was also received, the proceeds of the Lords Taverners Dinner at Lichfield Cricket Club in the summer.

 

Pupils from Lichfield Cathedral School became We Love Lichfield’s youngest fund-raisers – they raised more than £1,000 this year with two “big breakfast” fundraisers and a talent show supported by The Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

Free Christmas Event In Aid Of We Love Lichfield

How To Create The Perfect Christmas Dinner Table. Free Christmas Event Created By Lichfield Businesses

Together with other local businesses, we are holding a unique free Christmas themed event.  ‘How To Create The Perfect Christmas Table’ on Wednesday 28th November is an evening of tips, advice and demonstrations by local firms to help make your festive season that extra bit special plus there will be a raffle to raise money for We Love Lichfield.

 

The inaugural event last year saw hundreds pick up festive ideas and advice.  This year there will be even more stalls plus carol singing from The Garrick Community Choir and Morning Chorus.

 

There will be gin and cheese tasting, artisan bakers, cake decorators, table decorators and planners, a florist demonstrating festive arrangements and wreaths, homemade jams and chutneys.   Local companies including Ivisons Florist, Hunnypot Cottage and local celebrity private chef, Simon Smith will be there.  Simon will create Christmas lunch in 20 minutes during two cookery demonstrations.  Simon and James Price of Arthur Price will be laying tables fit for that perfect Christmas dinner table with their cutlery.

 

Simon Price said: “Last year’s event was amazing, 2018 and will be even better.  Why? Because of the amazing local business and community spirit in the area.  We are all coming together with our independent businesses to showcase our skills and products at a special time of year and also raising money for a great local cause.”

 

Entrance is free and there will be live music, carols & Christmas songs. Also free wine and mince pies.  The location is Arthur Price, Britannia Way, Lichfield WS14 9UY starting at 6:30 until 9pm.  Free parking.

Bring us your silver stars! Simon Price and Charles Hanson team up to put Lichfield’s silver heritage on the map for charity

Sensational silver and two well-known faces are joining forces in Lichfield to help charity – and they want you to help them make memories with your silver treasures.

 

Simon Price, CEO of the city’s Arthur Price cutlery and silverware company, and Charles Hanson, of Derbyshire’s Hansons Auctioneers, a familiar face on TV shows like Bargain Hunt, have teamed up to shine the spotlight on their love of all things silver.

 

On October 15, from noon-4pm, ‘Living a Lichfield Legacy – A Day of Discovery’ will be held at the Arthur Price Factory Shop, Britannia Way, Lichfield to enable people to celebrate and learn more about the city’s silver heritage.

The event, exploring 200 years of silver history, will be completely free but donations will be invited for charity We Love Lichfield which supports community projects.

 

Charles Hanson said: “I’m delighted to be coming to Lichfield to help this good cause and tell people about my passion for silver through the centuries and quality tableware.

 

“Lichfield has a sparkling silver history thanks to Arthur Price, a firm full of provenance and pedigree which has been manufacturing silver and plated goods for more than 100 years.

 

“What dusty old objects or nostalgic antiques have you got with a pedigree or story to tell which Simon and I can learn about?

 

“Dust down your dining table, look through your drawers, dig out your unused silver cutlery and bring it along. Let’s make this a day to celebrate Lichfield and Staffordshire’s heritage.”

As well as meeting Simon and Charles, free silver valuations will be available with Hansons’ silver expert Victoria Sheppard, formerly of Christie’s, on hand to advise. Visitors can also browse the wares in the Arthur Price Factory Shop.

 

Charles said: “Both Simon and I feel passionately about bringing silver back into the limelight. There is nothing more splendid than a table elegantly laid with silver cutlery. We see canteens of cutlery come to us at Hansons that have been given as wedding presents and never used because they were saved for best.

 

“Let’s get silver back at the heart of our dining experiences and make eating in style a key trend in time for Christmas 2018.”

£1275 raised for We Love Lichfield at charity auction

A GLITTERING charity auction has raised £1,275 for the We Love Lichfield fund.

The event at Swinfen Hall Hotel on Tuesday, August 7, celebrated the first anniversary of J’AIME magazine and saw local auctioneer Richard Winterton take the rostrum with a relish.

Five superb lots were on offer. Star of the auction was a fantastic package for four tickets for the British GT race at Donington Park on September 23, courtesy of J’AIME’s motors expert Martin Plowman, who will be racing on the day.

A bonus hospitality package was also included and the lot went on to raise £570 on the night.

Two tickets to a Sauce Supper Club pop-up restaurant event – a tasting menu hosted by a top chef, usually at a Lichfield venue – plus a signed menu and a meet-and-greet with the chef on the evening, courtesy of Sauce founders Beth and Jon Toovey made £380.

A motor racing simulator experience for two, courtesy of Symdeck, raised £130.

A pair of silver, diamond and ruby earrings courtesy of Allen Brown Jewellery, fetched £95 and a signed photograph taken by the late Lord Lichfield, courtesy of Simon Price, raised £100.

Mr Winterton, pictured above during the auction, said: “I went to the last We Love Lichfield ceremony giving out the latest round of grants and it was just amazing to see the smiles on people’s faces signifying what these grants mean to each and every charity. It is just wonderful and we support the fund wholeheartedly. I was delighted to see if we could raise a bit more with a special auction.”
